JETS TEX is a club that is dedicated to supporting the technical needs of theatrical productions mounted at JCHS.
In JetsTex , we get to be part of all the behind-the-scenes magic that makes a show come to life. It’s a mix of creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. Here’s what we’ve all gotten to do:
1. Building the SetOne of our favorite parts is designing and building the sets. We work together to create everything from walls and platforms to props and backdrops. We also spend time painting the sets, making sure they look perfect for each scene.
2. LightingLighting is super important for setting the mood of the show. We learn how to use different types of lights to create all kinds of effects, like making a scene feel dramatic or eerie. We also get to run the lighting boards during performances, adjusting the lights in real-time.
3. SoundSound is key to making a performance feel real. In the program, we help set up microphones and speakers, and we create sound effects that match what’s happening on stage. From thunder to footsteps to a car honking, we’re the ones behind the scenes making sure the sound is on point.
4. Costumes and MakeupWhile the actors are memorizing lines, we’re often working on costumes and makeup. We help design, sew, and fit costumes, and we’re also in charge of makeup, turning actors into their characters. Special effects makeup is especially fun because we get to be creative and make people look completely different.
5. Stage ManagementBeing a stage manager is like being the backstage boss. We help coordinate rehearsals, make sure everyone knows where they need to be, and keep everything running smoothly during the performances. It’s a big responsibility, but it’s so rewarding when everything goes according to plan.
6. PropsProps are the things actors use on stage—everything from swords to books to cups. We help find, organize, and sometimes create the props needed for the show. It’s a lot of work, but when we see everything come together on stage, it’s so satisfying.
7. Safety and ToolsTech theatre involves a lot of equipment, and we’ve learned how to use everything safely—from power tools to lighting rigs. Safety is always a top priority, especially when we’re working with heavy equipment or at heights.
8. Teamwork and Problem-SolvingOne of the best parts of tech theatre is the teamwork. Everyone has their role, and we work together to make sure the show runs smoothly. When things go wrong (because they always do), we have to think on our feet and come up with solutions quickly. It’s taught us how to stay calm under pressure and work together to solve problems.
9. Leadership OpportunitiesAs you stick with the program, you'll have the chance to take on more leadership roles. You will help design lighting and sound for shows, and some will led a crew of other students. It’s amazing to see a vision come to life and know that you have had a big part in making it happen.
Overall, being part of the tech theatre program has been an incredible experience for all of us. It’s a perfect blend of creativity, hands-on work, and learning how to collaborate to make something special. If you enjoy being behind the scenes and working with a team, this program is definitely worth checking out.
